The most famous of all these shopping areas is the Pawleys Island Hammock Shops, the birthplace of the world-renowned Pawleys Island rope hammock — a device which has long been heralded by beach bums everywhere as the epitome of relaxation devices. In addition to the Original Pawleys Island Hammock Shop, the Hammock Shops village also holds a variety of more than 20 specialty stores, places to eat and even a playground and toy shop for the kids.
